Cars On Alternative Fuels

Cars On Alternative Fuels: New Age Automobiles

There is a do or die situation in front of all of us. The depleting fuel resources have led all major car manufacturers to make models of cars on alternative fuels. The new age concept car would be a revolution to automobile industry. Such cars will not only help limited use of fuel resources but will contribute a lot to improve environment with less or no pollutants at all.

The alternative fuel vehicles are those vehicles which run on alternative fuel rather than traditional fuels like diesel, gasoline, or others. They use other sources of energy and not solely depend on regular fuel supply. These types of new age cars are a result of many factors like high price fuels, exhaustion of natural resource reserves, strict environmental laws, and the greenhouse emission gases.

The government too have shown high priority for such alternative fuel cars which will help to combat future crisis of fuel. Besides fuel issue the factors for which alternative fuel cars are gaining more popularity are their clean drive, better mileage, concept designs and sleek looks. The manufacturers of such cars also emphasize a lot on the design and looks. You can witness such beauty if you look around.

You will find a large number of car brands have manufactured some elegant and stylish cars like Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, General motors EV1 and others. All these cars run on alternative fuels.

Let's find out the types of cars which run on alternative fuels.

Hybrid Cars: These are the cars which have engines to utilize both electric power and internal combustion of fuels.

Air Cars: This is a car which uses compressed air in its engine to derive its energy. The first air engine was developed by a French Engineer called Guy Negre. Such a car uses the expansion of air to drive the pistons. The engineering is so fine that the only exhaust of the car is air of -15 degree centigrade and this air can be used for the AC of the car.

Battery or Electric Cars: The cars that run on battery are called Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The main source of their energy is the chemical energy stored in the batteries. They too produce no emission at all while driving. Today the General Motors' EV1 is such a car which runs completely on cell energy.

Solar Cars: The cars which run as an electric vehicle but are powered by solar energy obtained from solar panels situated on the top of the car are solar cars. They are not practically usable vehicles for transportation because the roof of a car so designed cannot have sufficient energy.

All these alternative fuel cars have some advantages and disadvantages. If some of the cars on alternative fuels can derive energy easily they have certain disadvantages such as high costs, not sufficient or fixed data on mileage and others. All because, industry is still in it's nascent stage. Let's hope that soon they become economically viable cars for all of us.
